For state agencies to function properly they need to obtain sensitive personal information from residents. New Mexicans have a reasonable expectation this information remains confidential and not be disclosed by state employees to outside individuals, data brokers, or agencies, including ICE. Currently, there are few restrictions on information sharing. This bill would limit, not eliminate, the personal sensitive information state employees and agencies could disclose, including certain MVD records that are sold to for-profit data brokers.

Para que las agencias estatales funcionen adecuadamente, necesitan obtener información personal de los residentes. Los Nuevo Mexicanos tienen una expectativa razonable de que esta información se mantenga confidencial y no sea divulgada por los empleados estatales a personas externas, corredores de datos o agencias, incluyendo ICE. Actualmente, existen pocas restricciones sobre el intercambio de información. Este proyecto de ley limitaría, no eliminaría, la información personal que los empleados y agencias estatales podrían divulgar, incluidos ciertos registros del
MVD que se venden a corredores de datos con fines de lucro.
